Web Applications
Web applications are web sites that have complex processing requirements, and usually involve storing and retrieving data from a database. These sites can do anything from maintaining and displaying information to users, to complete interfaces to other software applications. We have seen much growth in this area in the last few years and most new applications are being built at least partly as web applications. New tools for developing this type of application, including the Microsoft .NET platform are enabling a much richer interface for a browser-based application. The following are a list of the recent web applications that Vision7 has completed.

Prudential Commercial Real Estate Solutions provides consulting and training services for Prudential Commercial Real Estate affiliates. Vision7 created a web-accessible database that allows users to search for affiliates and view the résumés of the companies and their sales associates. The application was implemented using Jscript, Active Server Pages (ASP), IIS, and SQL Server.

DomainZoo provides domain name registration services for ISP's, individuals, and companies. Vision7 integrated the new .nu, .info, .biz, and .bz top-level domains into the web site; created a system to provide easy addition of new top-level domains as they are introduced; and developed tools that allow DomainZoo to monitor and maintain multiple connections to domain registries. The site and tools were implemented using C++, Visual Basic, ASP, JavaScript, Windows 2000 Server, IIS, and SQL Server. Additional development included upgrades to the WhoIs components of the web site.

Following successful testing of a pilot website, Vision7 and investors created a new company, Online Self Storage, Inc., to market and promote the online application to the self-storage marketplace. Using Vision7's Venture Technology Partner Model, Vision7 received an equity position in the new company in exchange for part of the cost of the software development. This site includes a Reservation and Payment system allowing users to reserve self-storage units on the Internet and to make monthly rent payments using their credit card. This site was implemented on Windows 2000 server using IIS, ASP, Jscript, and SQL Server 2000.

Wireless Medical Devices for Outpatient Care

Polymap Systems has developed a miniature wireless data card that attaches to portable medical devices worn by patients. These devices measure blood pressure, gather EKG data, or monitor other vital statistics throughout the day. The wireless card stores data and transmits the stored data to a wireless access station connected to the patient’s phone line. The access station will dial and connect to the Polymap database and upload the encrypted patient data at scheduled intervals. At any time, the patient’s doctor can log onto a secure website and download and view the patient data that has been collected.
The system was developed for the medical devices and access stations utilizing Bluetooth wireless communication specifications. The database, developed by Vision7, utilizes Microsoft’s Windows 2000 Server running a SQL Server 2000 database. The web site uses ASP on a COM+ framework.
